Watching the One Show last night I saw a report on model trains as collectibles and how collecting trains transcends age. It seems no matter how young or how old someone is, their love of trains isn’t affected by their age. The show featured model trains from the Sixties that were apparently worth thousands of pounds each, and some standard Hornby trains were touted as being valuable in today’s market.

They interviewed a model train maker who produced hand made trains from out of his shed in Harrogate, which are all made to order for wealthy customers.

Personally I’ve never seen the appeal of trains. I suppose this comes from having to catch one every day to go to work and finding they’re slow, noisy, smelly, crowded and unreliable.

Guess it takes all sorts.
