Toys R Us renage on offer

This Summer I popped into Toys R Us in Cardiff to look at the new Transformers that were released for the movie. They had a massive promo wall featuring more Transformers than I’d seen since probably circa 1986. I was in heaven, but a more exciting version of heaven.

They also had a great offer, All Transformers Movie toys Buy 1 get 1 half price. Brilliant! I picked up the Optimus Prime Voice Changing Helmet and the Transformers Scalextric.

However when I got to the checkout I found they’d ran them both through at full price. Naturally I questioned this and the manager was called over. He asked where I’d got the Scalextric from, thinking I’d picked it up from the Scalextric isle. No, it was from the Transformers promo wall.

He waddled off to look what the offer said on the wall, and my time waiting at the till increased. I was already late by now as I had my 3 year old son with me and needed to get off home.

He waddled back and gleefully chortled  about how I’d read the offer incorrectly. It seems the offer was for all HASBRO Transformers, the Scalextric was made by Hornby.

I’d had enough by this point and left both items in the store. This was however awful customer service for a number of reasons. Firstly, the Scalextric was in the promo wall where ALL movie Transformers were stated as being in the offer. Secondly, the Scalextric obviously had the word Hasbro written on it anyway as all Transformers are licensed by Hasbro.

I didn’t argue any further though as to be honest I didn’t want to give them any of my custom any more.

The moral here is to buy online. Offers are more transparent online and you can see discounts when you reach the basket. Plus you don’t have to argue with arrogant store managers who think they’re running an empire. Much easier eh?
