Why isn’t My Little Pony ever on TV?
If you have a daughter who’s into ponies, and let’s face it what little girl isn’t, your daughter will also be into My Little Pony. The toys are cute, relatively cheap, and are classics; having been around since the early Eighties. The interesting thing is you’ll have never seen the cartoon on UK TV.
The same can be said for Action Man. The cartoon has never been shown on TV in the UK. Have you ever wondered why? It’s actually because of UK TV advertising laws. My Little Pony and Action Man were toys BEFORE they became cartoons, so any cartoon featuring what is essentially a toy line is against advertising laws in the UK. They think it’s just one big toy ad.
This seems a little harsh, especially when you think of all the rubbish on TV these days that is blatantly there to sell toys, Power Rangers springs immediately to mind. If I weren’t such a fan I might also say Transformers, no, let’s be bold. Transformers as well is one big long toy advert. However, no matter how obvious those shows may be in their efforts to sell toys to children, the toy lines came second to the programs themselves. Therefore they’re OK.
My Little Pony however will never be OK. Little girls everywhere have missed out because of some nonsensical law.
